Artwork Statement
In this work I have tried to reflect both the literal and figurative sense of the theme; the figure in the centre is disrupting the constant and inundating flow of pop-culture that makes up the background. The bright unnatural colours in the painting contrast the normality of the icons in the collage, making them appear dull by comparison. I wanted to rip apart these pieces of pop culture to portray the story that all these pieces of media that I have consumed have come together to form this cartoonish and warped sense of self, represented by the monster. I consider this piece a self portrait.
