Highly Commended: Photography - digital, and new media art

Artwork Statement

The unique and artistic shape of the rocks and landscape has been formed by millions of years of constant wind from the Southern Ocean. Wind fast indicates a strong and impactful wind – a massive disrupt is in process. Like the rocks, the tree is an example of weather affected conditions for the same reason – disrupted and displaced.

Curator's Comment

A successful demonstration of tension in the image that is activating my body to lean one way and then another, similar to the wind in real time. Effective exploration of how the wind is affecting change. Well done.

About the artist

Peter Van Der Veen is originally from the Netherlands and has lived in Australia since 1969. As a photographer Van Der Veen looks for examples in nature, which he feels is a rare approach to photography in these modern times. His love for nature motivates him to capture photos as an extension on the experience he is having at that point in time. He uses the camera of his iPhone or his Lumix as the tools to capture his surroundings. Ven Der Veen uses no digital enhancement in his photographic works.
