Artwork Statement

A couple of scruffy balls of grey feathers sat on a near-by powerline. Looking. Squawking. Oh! The cacophony! The morning’s serenity – disrupted! The Currawong chicks flapped and jostled precariously. Demanding attention and demanding food. Mother Currawong returns with one morsel of food and views her eager, competing chicks … Any orderly feeding process – disrupted completely! Watching mother Currawong struggle with her young, rambunctious family struck a chord with me … Then I realised: the joys, the frustrations and the disruptions of motherhood are truly universal.

About the artist

Meg Noack lives at the Bunya Mountains. It brings Noack joy to watch a new cycle of life begin each spring and summer. She finds that the forests’ youngest members quickly gain attention and create unexpected surprises and delights. She finds that there is much to learn by watching the forest’s mothers; discipline, patience and perseverance in the midst of clamour, chaos and disruption!
