Artwork Statement
Prior to carving, the rugged cedar tree stump had multiple fissures and cavities to consider. The ritual of careful design and improvisation eventually revels in its transformation with flowing convergence of line and negative spaces.
About the artist
Guy Breay obtains most of his salvaged timber and colourful stone from local sources. He is attracted to the texture of old gnarled and twisted wood, especially tree stumps and dead branches that already have interesting shapes and movement.
