I create self-portraits as a mode of conscious and subconscious self-inquiry. Biomorphic goat face is an attempt to conjure my inner primal feelings. Humans have a long history of using animals to celebrate, enter spirit realms, conduct rituals, and understand their existence. I have melded an image of my pet goat over my open-mouthed face to create a monstrous, ritualistic, and spiritual self-portrait. I have used a monochromatic approach to merge human and animal and to help build an image that plays in fantastical and liminal spaces. I created this work using oil paint, a photopolymer etching plate, and Italian made paper.
