The Western Downs Regional Artists' Exhibition is an annual exhibition proudly presented by the Western Downs Galleries Committee represented by Lapunyah Art Gallery, Gallery 107 @ Dalby, Dogwood Crossing, Miles.

Now in its 8th consecutive year, 2021 will mark a transition following the unprecedented events of 2020 and Global Pandemic. The theme of the ‘Anthropocene Epoch’ aims to explore the unique experience of this time of change within the Western Downs and hopes to foster a collective desire for a culture care, respect, and positive action.

In 2021, the exhibition offers a total prize pool of $3800, with four Category Prizes, Young Artist Award, and People’s Choice Award. The exhibition will feature on Western Downs Arts as a Gallery and 3D virtual exhibition, and on show from 11 October – 17 November 2021 at Lapunyah Art Gallery, Chinchilla.

Western Downs Regional Council is working closely with the Queensland and Australian Governments to plan, prepare and coordinate response to the impacts of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the region. In accordance with advice, the exhibition opening date may change subject to ongoing advice.

Living in the Anthropocene Epoch

The Anthropocene Epoch is an unofficial unit of geological time, used to describe the most recent period in Earth’s history when human activity started to have a significant impact on the Planet’s climate and ecosystem.

Artists are challenged to respond to how a person, image, object, or place has captured their experience of environmental and cultural change. This narrative urges us to consider aspects of ‘Living in the Anthropocene Epoch’ as a narrative of hope and rejuvenation.

The exhibition will demonstrate the unique experience of this time of change within the Western Downs and hopes to foster a collective desire for a culture care, respect, and positive action.
