The Western Downs Regional Artists' Exhibition is an annual exhibition proudly presented by Western Downs Regional Council, supported by the Western Downs Galleries Committee represented by Lapunyah Art Gallery, Gallery 107 @ Dalby, Dogwood Crossing, Miles.

With the theme of ‘Kaleidoscope’ the 2022 exhibition takes a playful approach to observing the vicissitudes of life and invites artists to respond with their own unique and colourful perspective.

In 2022, the exhibition offers a total prize pool of $3800, with four Category Prizes, Young Artist Merit Award, and People’s Choice Award. The exhibition will feature on Western Downs Arts as a Gallery and 3D virtual exhibition, and on show from 5 November 2022– 28 January 2023 at Dogwood Crossing, Miles.

Kaleidoscope

Kaleidoscopes fascinate all ages. The coloured glass chips tumble over mirrors reassembling into beautiful, colourful shapes and patterns as you turn or shake the tube.  An endless cycle of creation and destruction plays out as things fall apart and are put back together; different but still beautiful.

The complexity and ongoing change reflected in a kaleidoscope is also evocative of the broader cycles and patterns that unfold in nature, and in people themselves. With light, and through the prism of childlike wonder, beauty is observable in life’s game.

Artists on the Western Downs are invited to play with the theme ‘Kaleidoscope’ and submit artwork in their favoured medium including but not limited to painting, drawing, collage, printing, mixed media, textiles, sculpture, installation, photography, digital and new media artwork.
